****  2012 Troop 65 Summer Camp at Camp Grimes  ****

Hello Scouts (and Parents),

It’s that time of year... Time to start planning for 2012 Troop 65 Summer Camp at Camp Grimes!!!  For those that have been around Troop 65, you know this is a big event for the Troop.  For those new to the Troop, this is a very exciting trip that we look forward to every year.  All Troop 65 Scouts are HIGHLY encouraged to attend summer camp with the Troop.  Camp is a great chance to earn merit badges, learn new scout skills, get rank requirements reviewed/signed off, and to generally participate in the “summer camp way” which is a big part of the Scouting experience. To make this year a success and run smoothly, there are several steps that need to be completed to plan, prepare and help us get going.

Basic information to get started:
Trip Dates: 7/8/2012 – 7/14/2012
Cost: $240/scout, plus additional course fees based on selected Merit Badge Classes
(First half deposit due by March 19th, balance due by April 30th)
Destination: Camp Grimes, Nebo NC

Please visit the Troop 65 website Summer Camp Page at http://www.bsa-troop65.org/2012-summer-camp.html for additional information about this year’s program.

Immediate Actions To Be Taken:

1. RSVP – We need this to happen as soon as possible.  You can RSVP on the Troop 65 website at http://www.bsa-troop65.org/2012-camp-grimes-signup.html.  If you do not plan to attend camp with Troop 65, please send an email to rdonaher@carolina.rr.com to indicate such so we don’t pester you.

2. Medical Forms:  An updated medical form is required for all scouts attending summer camp.  This means all 3 parts A,B,C as well as copy of medical cards.  This will require a visit to a Doctor to complete.  No scout will be allowed to attend summer camp without an updated Medical Form.  Forms are only good for 12 months, so even if you completed this last year, an updated form must be completed this year.  Plan early to ensure this can be completed by July 1st at latest.  There is a link to the most recent Scout medical form on the Troop 65 website Summer Camp page.

3. Merit Badge Selection: **There is a new process this year for selecting MB’s**  We will be using the Troop 65 website this year to enter your selections at http://www.bsa-troop65.org/2012-summer-camp.html.  Additionally on this page is information about what Merit Badge classes are being offered as well as a link to Camp Grimes website with all the information you need to make your selections.  You will need to provide a “first choice” and alternate choices for every session.  The initial MB selection entry cut off will be Feb 27th.  We will then post a report of the initial selections for validation and allow you to make any changes you wish.  **Important** On the website is a 2012 MB Quick Reference as well as the 2012 MB Schedule .  Please review the merit badge offerings and the pre-requisites for all classes when making your selections.  Please be sure to check and ensure that you are eligible to take a class before you select it for camp.

Lastly, for new Scouts to the troop, we will be holding an informational meeting to discuss Summer Camp further.  Please RSVP your attendance now, but you can wait until after we meet to enter MB selections if you are not sure about which to take.

If you have any questions about this years camp, please feel free to contact us.
