Camp Rainey Mountain Kick Off
**** 2021 Troop 65 Summer Camp at Camp Rainey Mountain ****
Hello Scouts (and Parents),
It’s that time of year... Time to start planning for our Troop 65 Summer Camp!!! This year we listened to our older scouts and decided to try a new Summer Camp. After a lot of research and consideration we have decided to attend Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia. For those that have been around Troop 65, you know this is a big event for the Troop. For those new to the Troop, this is a very exciting trip that we look forward to every year. All Troop 65 Scouts are HIGHLY encouraged to attend summer camp with the Troop. Camp is a great chance to earn merit badges, learn new scout skills, get rank requirements reviewed/signed off, and to generally participate in the “summer camp way” which is a big part of the Scouting experience. To make this year a success and run smoothly, there are several steps that need to be completed to plan, prepare and help us get going.
Basic information to get started:
Trip Dates: 6/6 – 6/12
Cost: $350 per Scout (additional amount for fuel will be collected at the end of May 2021), plus any additional Merit Badge course fees.
$180 per Adult(-$10 per Scout)
Destination: Camp Rainey Mountain, Clayton, GA
There will be a parent/scout summer camp meeting held Dec xxth; 7pm @ Scout Hut. Parents of new scouts are required to attend. Others that have any questions about this exciting event are welcome to attend.
Immediate Actions To Be Taken:
1. RSVP – We need this to happen as soon as possible. You can RSVP on the Troop 65 website.
If you do not plan to attend camp with Troop 65, please still RSVP to indicate such so we don’t pester you.
2. Merit Badge Selection: We will be using the Troop 65 website again this year to enter your selections. Additionally on this page is information about what Merit Badge classes are being offered as well as a link to Camp Grimes website with all the information you need to make your selections. You will need to provide a “first choice” and alternate choices for every session. After initial MB selection we will send out a report of the initial selections for validation and allow you to make any changes you wish. **Important** On the website is a MB Quick Reference as well as the MB Schedule . Please review the merit badge offerings and the pre-requisites for all classes when making your selections. Please be sure to check and ensure that you are eligible to take a class before you select it for camp. ***NEW SCOUTS CROSSING OVER DO NOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE MERIT BADGE SELECTION UNTIL AFTER THE NEW SCOUT PARENT MEETING please watch for date and make ever effort to attend ***
3. Medical Forms: An updated medical form is required for all scouts attending summer camp. This means all 3 parts A,B,C as well as a copy of both sides of medical insurance cards. This will require a visit to a Doctor to complete. No scout will be allowed to attend summer camp without an updated Medical Form. Forms are only good for 12 months, so even if you completed this last year, an updated form must be completed this year. Plan early to ensure this can be completed by June 1st at latest. Most recent BSA forms can be found at:
http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_ABC.pdf
please use this link as there are old versions of forms around that Grimes will not accept.
Lastly, as stated above, for new Scouts to the troop, we will be holding an informational meeting to discuss Summer Camp further. Please RSVP your attendance now, but you can wait until after we meet to enter MB selections if you are not sure about which to take.
If you have any questions about this year’s camp, please feel free to contact us.
