APPALACHIAN trail
cavers gap to 19e
december 4-6
Troop 65 is planning a trip to backpack approximately 14 miles of the Appalachian Trail May 14-16. Please note this trek is rated as "Hard" on the All Trails app. You must be a minimum of 13 years old to attend. Proper equipment is CRITICAL for this trip which is outlined below, and please understand once we commit on the AT we are in! Here is a link to the All Trails App which will give you some understanding of the trek along with pictures, reviews, and 6 waypoints.
There will be, at minimum, 2 shakedowns of everyones pack before this trip. One in advance of the trip (weight recorded at 6:30pm on 05/10/2021) and one the night before we depart (weight recorded at 6:30pm on 05/13/2021). If you elect to participate on this trip please note that we will HAVE to leave before/around noon on Friday 05/14/2021. The drive is right at 3 hours to Mountain Harbour Bed and Breakfast (Parking and Shuttle location) and the goal is to hike in 5 miles to set up camp the first night, so we have a jump on the mileage. The schedule will be dialed in closer to the date.
***Considering the intensity of this trip we will be monitoring the weather closely. We are hoping for a good forecast; however, inclement weather could cause us to reschedule this trip.***
What: A.T. - 14 Miler
When: May 14-16
Where: Carvers Gap to 19E
Cost: $30 (strictly fuel and shuttle service)
Age: 13+
This list is from a blog that, in my opinion, is "Must Haves" for this trip. There could be additional items based on the weather but it is recommended you have access to these items before registering for this trip. If you do not have the items needed and you would like to go, please reach out to Mr. Porter or any ASM, ASAP.
