3rd Annual Mint Hill Christmas Parade
Calling ALL Scout, Cub, and Crew members!!!
We’re closing in on the parade and wanted to send out a few details along with a link to sign up to participate!
First things first!! We’ll be having our first ever Deckin’ the Float event this Friday from 6 pm until we wrap up! Bring your favorite finger food or dessert and come help us deck out the float! We’re also asking that you bring 1-2 boxes of mini candy canes to give out at the parade. Dollar Tree normally carries them! Please bring them to the decorating event so we have a count for the parade! The goal for this event is not only to prep the floats for the parade, but to also bring everyone together for some fun & fellowship! So come ready to roll up your sleeves, hang some lights, fill your belly, and have some fun! Feel free to bring your favorite board game, football, etc!
Next on the list, we’re changing things up a bit this year and bringing a few new things to the line up! We really want to showcase more of the adventurous side of scouting! We’re adding in a few costume/character opportunities including fishermen, backpackers, rock climbers, and hopefully a BIG FOOT for fun (if we can pull it off)! See the Christmas Parade Vision Board and individual close-ups of each adventure theme in the attachments. The specific items are also listed in the RSVP link! These spots are only open for scouts as we would like to try to keep all younger cubs on the floats if possible! We are also adding a trailer with 2 canoes that is reserved for the cubs! There is a place in the sign up genius for spots on a canoe! We’re hoping to fit 8-10 cubs in each! First come, first serve! All other Cub Scouts will be riding on the truck or walking if necessary.
Regarding parade day details…. First, I’d like to throw it out there that we would love to have 100% participation so our presence is known in the community! If you’re participating in the parade please plan to arrive at the Bain Elementary School drop off area between 4:00-4:30 pm. Make sure you’re at our float no later than 4:30 pm! We’ll have an adult leader at the drop off to receive your scout. Don’t bring anything with you that you don’t intend to wear or carry in the parade! The parade starts at 5:30pm at Bain Elementary and will end in the Publix parking lot. We will bus the scouts back to the church parking lot as soon as the parade concludes. Parents, if you plan to attend the tree lighting, please come to the hut for pick up first!
Attire….All BSA parade participants need to be in Class A uniform unless you have signed up for a specific adventure costume!! Neckerchief, sash..... the works!!! The high Saturday is 66° but the temperature will dip after dark so dress accordingly! With that being said, layer your warmth under the uniform instead of covering it. We want everyone to look sharp!!! All walking participants must be wearing lights!!! If you have a headlamp bring it or you can pick up a light up necklace from Dollar Tree...that counts too! We encourage everyone to deck themselves with festive gear being that our “Festiveness” is being judged! Fyi....Dollar tree is loaded with santa hats, light up necklaces, glasses, you name it!!!
Side note: Last year we had parents that followed the float which you are welcome to do! However, if you plan to do so you MUST wear a Class B Cub/Scout t-shirt or Class B sweatshirt. They are available for purchase if you don’t have one yet! Also, please try your best fall in behind the floats and walkers. Please don’t walk beside the float and obstruct the view for others!
Last but not least, The Town of Mint Hill has asked that all participants bring a canned food item to donate. There will be a trailer in the parking lot of Bain Elementary to drop off your donated food items! We currently have over 1500 participants. If everyone brings one can of food, together we can make a difference!
