THANK YOU FOR A GREAT SUMMER CAMP

I want to say a huge thank you to all of the families of Troop 65 for entrusting our adult leaders with your kids for a week away from home at summer camp. Personally, my favorite part is getting to know the kids better and see them excel in their merit badges. We truly have a great Troop with some amazing kids!

I also want to give a huge shout out to Mr. Krumbine (pictured in the front, taking the selfie as we departed camp yesterday). Two years ago he stepped up to the plate to take on the role of summer camp coordinator and lighten my load. Mr. Krumbine did an amazing job navigating us through a new camp with some unique features and camp methods.

Now it's time to start planning summer camp 2026!

NEW 2025-2026 CALENDAR

Two weeks ago, Troop 65, 1265 and Pack 65 met to set and coordinate our calendars for September 2025 through August 2026. I will be importing these into Scoutbook as well as the Troop Google Calendar (see link above). Most will not have a set location for our camping trips, but will have the dates for your planning purposes.

And, just as a reminder, here are the remaining dates for this summer:

  • JULY 7: SUMMER MEETING
  • JULY 21: SUMMER MEETING
  • JULY 25: LOCK-IN AT PPC
  • AUG 4: SUMMER MEETING
  • AUG 8-10: WHITEWATER RAFTING
  • AUG 18: SUMMER MEETING
  • AUG 25: REGULAR MEETING

Signups for both the lock-in and the whitewater rafting trip should be available by the end of this week.

Finally, please remember that advancement is still possible over the summer. You can still contact Mr. Hall for Scoutmaster Conferences and Mrs. Adams for Boards of Review. Summer is a great time to rank up!

HELP NEED FOR THE BURR FAMILY

NEW SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: YARD WORK FOR LOCAL FAMILY DEALING WITH TERMINAL ILLNESS

This past week, I was approached by members of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church with a unique request for assistance that will qualify for service hours for Scouts. The Burr family, who are lifelong members of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, are in need of assistance in getting yard work completed each week.

A little over a year ago, Cory's and Kathryn's four-year old son, James was diagnosed with Batten's Disease. This is a rare genetic condition that causes cells to collect waste instead of getting rid of it. As a result, children who develop batten's disease experience seizures, vision loss and problems with thinking and movement. Symptoms get worse over time. Batten's disease leads to early death for children. Based on the type of Batten's with which James was diagnosed and his age when he was diagnosed, his life expectancy is 8 to 12 years.

The Burr's have James enrolled in experimental trials that require trips to Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill three weeks each month for cranial and ocular injections in hopes of slowing the progression of the disease. I've included a link to the family's website which updates their journey and provides more details about Batten's.

Here is the ask of our Scouts, leaders and parents: Currently, Cory is trying to maximize his time with his son, which means taking care of the yard after dark (sometimes after midnight) or not at all. We are looking to see who would be willing to help in a rotation to maintain the Burr's yard. If you are willing to help, please click the button below to email Mr. Hall.

REMINDER 2025 Summer Camp Forms & Payment Due ASAP

June 22-28th | Woodruff Scout Camp

Thanks to the hard work of Mr. Krumbine everything from the Troop side is ready to go for camp. However, we still need some items from you! Mr. Krumbine has been emailing those who still need to submit medical forms, activity waiver or final payment. Please take a look at your email, see if you a missing any of these and take care of them ASAP.

Additionally, if you have any dietary restrictions for summer camp, please visit our summer camp page below and submit your form to Camp Woodruff. That website also has been updated with links to Woodruff's 2025 Parents Guide, menu for camp, packing list and more.

I am working to schedule swim tests before camp and will keep you updated on what we are able to do and when. Finally, this Wednesday at 8:00 pm, I will host a virtual summer camp information session and Q&A for any of those who might have questions about camp. You can find a link to that below

June 22-28th | Woodruff Scout Camp

Merit Badges are set for Summer Camp. Be sure to pay attention to emails in case this is the situation.

Our next two deadlines for camp will be for medical forms (parts A, B & C), which are due on June 1st. Final payment is due on June 6th. If you have not yet paid your previous payments, please do so ASAP.. You can make the payment via cash, check or PayPal (use the button below).

We also are planning an informational meeting for Summer Camp 2025 soon. It's suggested all attend as Camp Woodruff has some unique features different from other camps we've attended!
