NEW Volunteer Opportunities

November 9th & November 27th

We have two volunteer opportunities in the coming weeks for Scouts to earn service hours. 

First on Saturday, November 9th, we again are helping with the Mint Hill Veterans' Breakfast at Arlington Baptist. We need adults to assist with parking and Scouts to help greet and serve the breakfast.

Then on November 27th, we have a great opportunity to volunteer with the 78th Annual Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade in Uptown Charlotte. We need at least 15 Scouts to act as ushers for the seating area for the parade and to help with the Cookies with Santa event prior to the parade

Reminder Haunted Woods 2025

Workday for Next Fall | November 9th

As you know, we made the tough decision to postpone the Haunted Woods Fundraiser to 2025 in order to provide the best possible product.  With that said, we are still working to prepare for next year!  

We plan to have another workday on 11/9 to work on building the haunted house facade.  With a full year to plan, we hope to have everything ready to go well in advance so that we can simply set it up when the time comes.  We appreciate everyone taking time to help us get this done!

Reminder Summer Camp RSVP

June 22-28th | Woodruff Scout Camp

We are now nearing the first deadline for Summer Camp 2025! The initial deposit of $20 per Scout is due on November 1st. We now have a link below to sign up to attend! Note - this deposit is refundable until February 1st.

For our 2025 Summer Camp, we are headed to Woodruff Scout Camp in Blairsville, GA (near GA, NC and TN border)! We already have details about the camp ready for you to review - just click the button below!

Reminder Philmont Trek 2026

July 19-31, 2026 | Cimarron, NM

We have secured a spot for a 12-Day trek at Philmont Scout Reservation in Summer 2026! The expedition will arrive at Philmont on July 19, 2026 and will return home on July 31.  We have spots for 12 people: 4 adults and 8 scouts. 

The 12-Day Reservation fee is $1,725.00/person with payment schedule as follows:

• Deposit of $150.00/person due 12/1/2024
• Advance of $787.50/person due 10/1/2025
• Balance of $787.50/person due 3/1/2026

Youth need to be 14 years old OR 13 years old and completed 8th grade by our departure date.
 
Please let us know if you are interested and committed to making the trip NO LATER THAN November 11.  We will collect the non-refundable deposit of $150 by Nov 18 so we can send a check to Philmont to hold the spot.

Help Needed Hurricane Relief

While Hurricane Helene hit over two weeks ago, the need for help in Western North Carolina still very much exists. There will be many more opportunities to help directly through the troop in the future that we are coordinating now. Until then, I have included links to both the Red Cross and Salvation Army donation portals for financial donations. I have also included a link to Daniel Boone Council, the Scouting Council in the Asheville area, which is taking donations to help scouts replace uniforms, patches, handbooks and more.

Please give as you are able!

Scoutbook only gives registered leaders access to the Merit Badge Counselor lists. However, in an effort to make it easier for everyone, we created this website listing all merit badges with Eagle required highlighted in blue

Don't forget the proper procedure:

• Choose which merit badge you would like to earn
• Contact the counselor
• Speak to Mr. Hall about pursuing this merit badge and obtain a blue card!

New Haunted Woods 2025

Workdays for Next Fall | 10/26 & 11/9

As you know, we made the tough decision to postpone the Haunted Woods Fundraiser to 2025 in order to provide the best possible product.  With that said, we are still working to prepare for next year!

We will be prepping for next weekend's campout as well as welcoming the AOL Dens from Pack 65 to learn more about Scouting in the Troop so be sure to bring lots of Scout Spirit!

Reminder Cycling Camping Trip

October 11-13 | Jackson River Trail

Thank you for your patience as we worked out the plan to continue a cycling trip in October. The revised details of location were sent out last week.

Now it's time to prep for the trip! The drive, while longer in distance, will take the same time - approximately 3.5 hours to our camping location.

Thank you for those who came out and helped with our Hurricane Helene donation drive on Saturday. I know it was last minute, but Troop 65 rose to the occasion as always!

NEW CAMPING LOCATION

JACKSON RIVER SCENIC TRAIL

⚠️ OCTOBER CAMPING TRIP UPDATE! ⚠️

It has taken a few days to work out the logistics, but we have found a new location for next weekend's camping trip that salvages cycling on a Rails-To-Trail Path.

The new location is cycling the Jackson River Scenic Trail in Covington, Va. Much like the Virginia Creeper trail, the ride is approximately 12-14 miles and either down hill or flat.

We will be camping at Camp Bethel, a church camp in Fincastle, Va - approximately 3.5 hours away. The signup for the trip has been updated and can be accessed here with more details.

IF THESE CHANGES IMPACT YOUR RSVP, YOU CAN EDIT YOUR RSVP AT THIS LINK. PLEASE MAKE ANY CHANGES BY NOON ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3RD!  

 We also ask that you continue to look for opportunities to help those impact by Hurricane Helene. You can help now with their recovery by donating to the Red Cross Hurricane Helene Drive or you can drop off supply donations at the Mint Hill Fire Department. Their Facebook page has the items the continue to collect
