REMINDER - TROOP MEETING MONDAY @ 7PM!

Just a quick reminder that our next Troop meeting is Monday at 7:00 PM! Uniform is Class A with Class B Underneath

□ WATCHING WEATHER FOR TROOP MEETING □

As of now, the Charlotte area is expected to received an all-day long, steady rain on Monday, October 27th. We are planning to shift our meeting to the Chapel as we did a few weeks ago, contingent on it being available. We will update via email and Band on Monday afternoon.

NEW SAM STRAND EAGLE PROJECT WORKDAY

 NOV 1ST | 9 AM - 3PM

Sam Strand has scheduled his first Eagle project work day for November 1st from 9 am to 3pm. The location is 616 Courtney Lane, Matthews, NC, but carpools recommended due to limited parking.

Sam asks that Scouts wear a hat, work pants, Class B/work shirt, and work boots as you will be digging / shoveling dirt and mulch. For gear and equipment, please bring Water bottle, work gloves, shovels, and rakes. A Sign-Up Genius will be sent out soon so volunteers can choose which workgroup projects they want to join.

This is going to be a meaningful project benefiting the Browning Retreat in Matthews, and I’m excited to have everyone’s support and participation. All volunteers welcomed!

NEW ANNUAL MINT HILL VETERANS BREAKFAST

ARLINGTON BAPTIST CHURCH | NOV 8TH

As we enter mid-October, we near one of our important service opportunities as a troop. Each year, we are asked to help at the annual Mint Hill Veterans Breakfast by having Scouts greet and serve food to the veterans while adults help with parking attendees.

This year's breakfast is set for Saturday, November 8th @ 8 am. Volunteers need to meet at the Scout Hut at 6:45 am that morning to shuttle over to Arlington Baptist. If you would like to participate, please sign up at the link to the left.

NEW NEW RIVER CYCLING TRIP

NEW RIVER TRAIL | GALAX, VA

NOVEMBER 14-16

Our November trip will be to the New River Trail State Park in Virginia for a fun cycling ride on the New River Trail, part of the Rails-to-Trail initiative across the country. The New River Trail travels more than 55 miles along the New River, the oldest river in North America, providing many scenic vistas, bridge crossings and tunnels through mountains. We won't be biking that entire distance, but will be taking a 12 mile section from Galax, VA to Fries Junction, VA.

For our campsite, we will be staying at Camp Raven knob and utilizing some of their Adirondack sites, much like we did on our climbing trip there in 2023.

As for bikes, we again are offering the opportunity for attendees to bring their own bikes if you choose as well as coordinating rentals for those who need it. Please see the links to the left to RSVP and packing list/preliminary itinerary.

□ NEXT PLC IS MONDAY, OCT 20 □

Our next PLC is Monday, October 20th at 6pm. We will be planning our meetings for November and selecting our December trip. The Senior Patrol Leader, Asst Senior Patrol Leaders, Patrol Leaders, Scribe and Troop Guides need to attend or delegate someone to take their place.

Based on feedback at last Monday's meeting, we are working on coordinating a cycling trip for the weekend of November 14-16 for our next campout! We hope to have details our later this week!

We want to thank all of the Scouts and adults who joined us for the camping trip with the AOLs this weekend at Congaree National Park. Despite nearly 2" of rain over 24 consecutive hours of precipitation, everyone did a great job of showing Scout Spirit despite the circumstances. 

One note - we do have a number of items that were left behind at the Scout Hut. If your Scout is missing an item, please come on in on Monday and see if it was found when we unloaded!

We want to thank all of the Scouts and parents who volunteered yesterday to help at PPC's Rock Springs Cemetery in cleaning up the three downed trees, plus four more dead trees we cut down and picking up all the large limbs. This will make the work cleaning up leaves later this fall much, much easier.

FINAL CALL CAMPING W/ AOLs

CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK | OCT 10-12

This is our final call for RSVPs for our October trip. We are camping and hiking at Congaree National Park just outside of Columbia, SC as we welcome our AOL friends from Pack 65 to help them complete their Outdoor Adenturer Adventure as well as letting them see how fun it is to Scout in Troop 65.

Congaree National Park is the largest intact expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeastern United States. This allows for amazing biodiversity. On our last trip to Congaree, we saw tons of cool animals and crazy large trees on our hike.
