MAY 15-17 | ROAN HIGHLANDS, NC/TN

NEW DETAILS BELOW!

We're less than a week away from our backpacking trip to the Appalachian Trail in the Roan Highlands. Here are a few important reminders for those attending:

Please review the packing list and itinerary at the link to the right.

• Gear shakedown: Moved from Thursday to Wednesday, still 7:00–9:00 PM. If this is your scout's first backpacking trip, or if you want to make sure everything is packed correctly, please bring their pack to the shakedown.
• Weather update: The current forecast looks great, with temperatures in the low 60s during the day and mid-50s at night. Since forecasts can change quickly, please keep checking for updates throughout the week.

Each scout should bring their own meals:

• 2 breakfasts
• 1 lunch
• 1 dinner

Meal suggestions:

• For breakfast and dinner, backpacking meals like Mountain House or Backpacker's Pantry work well and can be found at Walmart, Academy Sports, or REI.
• For lunch, please avoid meals that require boiling water. Better options include granola bars, crackers, cheese or peanut butter, and jerky.

At Monday's meeting, we'll finalize tent assignments and divide tent parts among tent mates to help share the weight.

If your scout is going on the trip but will not be at Monday's meeting, please let me know so we can plan accordingly.

LAST CALL BACKPACKING TRIP

Our next camping trip is our annual backpacking trip. This spring, we are visiting one of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail - the Roan Highlands and Carver's Gap!

We again are offering two different options:

• Experienced Backpackers: 14.3-mile trip that will travel one of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail - Carver's Gap to US 19E

• 1st-Time Backpackers: 6.2-mile trip visiting Massie Gap & Yellow Mountain

   

Both trips will see (hopefully) the gorgeous rhododendrons.

Please note: This is true backpacking - a pack in and pack out event, carrying everything on your back.

The cost for this trip will be only fuel contribution and the shuttle from the ending location of the hike. The cost for this trip will be $25 per person.

NEW 2026 MINT HILL FUNDRAISER OPPORTUNITIES

The Town of Mint Hill has approached the Troop about assisting with parking for town events for the rest of the year, resulting in a donation to the Troop for each event. The work will involve directing attendees to open parking spaces.

The first event is the Fetching Fun festival at Founder's Park on next Saturday, May 3. Volunteers are needed from 9:30 am until 2:00 pm. Volunteers will earn a percentage of the donation back into their scout account for use for trips or summer camp.

NEW 2026 ETOWAH CAMPOREE

APRIL 17-19 | Belk Scout Camp

RSVP BY APRIL 13TH!

Our next camping trip is next weekend at the Etowah Camporee at Belk Scout Camp.And we are now at the deadline to RSVP. We ask that everyone RSVP by Monday, April 13th so we can submit our patrols for competitions!

For those who have not attended a camporee, this is an event where Scouting units compete in a variety of Scout skills competitions to show off what they've learned.

This year, we will compete not only with from Troops Etowah District, but also Troops from the Old Hickory District in Central North Carolina Council.

The cost to attend is $25 per Scout ($10 to the District for registration and $15 for food to the Troop).

We also have updated our packing list and itinerary to reflect next weekend's weather. Be sure to check it out before the trip.

REMINDER 2026 CAMP CARD FUNDRAISER NOW COMPLETE

MONEY OR EXCESS CARDS DUE MONDAY

If you took Camp Cards to sell, it is now time to bring in the money from your sales or your unsold cards. We need this by Monday, April 13th. You can either bring cash/check on Monday or pay the Troop via PayPal or Zelle using the instructions on the Troop website.

The Troop must return everything by the end of next week to get a full commission from Council. Let me know if you have any questions.

These cards include hundreds of dollars in discounts and sell for just $10, making it an easy sell to friends, families, co-workers and more.

For each camp card a Scout sells, $4 will go into the Scout's account, $1 to the Troop and the remainder going to our Council.

If you are interested in selling, click the button to contact Mr. Cavalline to get as many cards you need. The money from your card sales and an unsold cards must be turned by April 20th.

NEW MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

It is that time of year where the Troop recharters with Scouting America. The committee decided we are going to change it up this year. We are asking everyone to pay your national recharter dues online. This is due to all the varying renewal dates we have for our scouts. You all should have received emails from Scouting America about you and/or your scouts renewal is upcoming. There are a large number of us who expire 3/31/26. You can access the renewal by logging into https://my.scouting.org/ and pay the fee. The Troop will also have dues separate from the national fee. We will determine that cost at our committee meeting in February. Feel free to reach out to Mr. Cavalline if you have any questions.

REMINDER SUMMER CAMP @ CAMP GRIMES

We are now at the deadline to sign up for camp and send your merit badge choices to Mr. Krumbine. Our summer camp will be at Camp Grimes, celebrating its 50th Anniversary. The week we are attending is June 21-June 27.

AOL CROSSOVER CEREMONY MONDAY @ 7:00 PM!

It's that time of year where we welcome the Arrow of Light Scouts to Troop 65 and Troop 1265 to continue their Scouting trail. This year, the Crossover Ceremony is set for Monday night! It will start after Pack 65 finishes their ceremony. 

We need as many from the Troop as possible to welcome in our new Scouts. We ask Scouts to arrive by 7:00 pm for setup! We also need Patrol Leaders, Senior Patrol Leaders, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders and Den Chiefs to arrive by 6:30 pm to review the ceremony

Uniform for Crossover is full Class A! This includes merit badge sash, any medals earned as well as OA sash for OA members!

NEW 2026 BBQ Fundraiser

MARCH 20 & 21 | AROUND MINT HILL

We are set for our next BBQ fundraiser on next Saturday, March 21st. We will be selling pulled pork, beans, slaw, Brunswick stew and banana pudding. This is one of the biggest fundraisers we have each year which helps pay for Troop gear, adult leaders registration fees and other major costs of the troop.
