2024 JACKSON RIVER TRAIL CYCLING TRIP ITINERARY AND PACKING LIST
Thursday - October 10th

What Clothing to Bring:
Gear:
- 7:00 PM – Grubmasters' Grocery Shopping at Food Lion (8118 Blair Rd, Mint Hill, NC)
- In an effort to maximize time and efficiency, only the Scouts selected to grocery shop will do so on Thursday at 7pm. I will contact these families directly in a separate email on Wednesday
- If your scout is one of those, please have drop them off at the Food Lion on Blair Rd (right near the church) to shop for our groceries for the weekend
- Scouts can be picked up at 8:00 pm at the Scout Hut
- 8:00 PM - Cycling Trip Gear Drop (optional)
- Drop off your gear for trip early as you likely don't need the gear on Friday before the trip
- Pack toiletries in day pack to allow use on Friday before we depart
Departure from Scout Hut - Friday, October 11th
- Please arrive at Hut at 5:30 pm to drop gear and load trailer. We need to depart by 6:00 pm as it is a 3-3.5 hour drive
- Scouts need to be in full class A uniforms for departure
- We will not be stopping for dinner so please make sure your Scouts are fed before arriving or choose to add a Chick-fil-a Boxed Meal to your RSVP!
Arrival back at Scout Hut - Sunday, October 13th
- Estimated arrival back at Hut is 1:30 pm. Updates on ETA will come through Band and Text via Scoutbook. This is not when Scouts are cleared to leave.
- Scouts need to help unload Troop gear, unpack leftover food and clean up before being dismissed
- Please pack some snacks or extra cash for a gas station stop on the way back to Mint Hill

Payment:
- The cost of the trip is dependent on option selected. Please refer to your signup for the total needed to be paid.
- We need payment before they depart on Friday. If food/gas costs end up lower, we will refund any excess to Scout accounts.
- Please send extra money with your Scout(s) for dinner on Friday and a snack on the way home.
Weather
- Hi/Lo Temps: The early forecast for our weekend is low to mid 70s for highs and upper 40s at night - Pack appropriate cool weather gear for the evening!
- Rain: We will update this as we near the trip, but the weather in the mountains can change at a moment's notice so be sure to Be Prepared!

- Long-sleeve Shirt

- PJs/something to wear to bed
- Sweatshirt
- Mid-weight jacket/fleece
- Boots and Warm Socks (No CROCS!)
- Gloves
- Rain Gear (weather is TBD, but you should be prepared…it’s the mountains)

- Day pack
- Tent & Footprint (No need to bring if you already have a tent mate and arrangements to use a troop tent or your tent mate's tent)
- Ground Sleeping Pad
- Sleeping Bag rated to 35 degrees or below
- Pillow
- Mess Kit
- Personal First Aid Kit
- Water Bottle
- Sunscreen
- Hand warmers
- Sunglasses
- Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, soap & shampoo if you plan to take a shower)
- Small Towel
- Toilet Paper – ½ roll (just in case)
- Headlamp or Flashlight w/ extra batteries
- Bike Helmet (if bringing own bike)
- Camp chair (optional - there are picnic tables, but the chair allows fellowship around fire at night)
- Deck of Playing Cards/Game (optional for downtime)
- Ball/Frisbee (optional for downtime)
- Knife (Totin’ Chip Required)

- Extra money for Saturday stops along Creeper trail and convenience store stop (we will likely make a stop on the way home on Sunday)
