Please Note following Merit Badge Selection Guidelines and Important Notes:
Citizenship in Community
As in the past years, Citizenship in the Community should not be taken at Camp Grimes. Due to the nature of the work required to properly earn this, Troop 65 does not feel summer camp is the appropriate place to complete this badge.
Cooking
Cooking should not be chosen as a Merit Badge class at summer camp. Troop 65 offers Cooking at summer camp during Session 7 taught at our camp sight by Jim White of Troop 65.
First Year Scouts
First Year Scouts are ENCOURAGED to take Swimming first year they attend camp. Swimming is pre-requisite for many other badges so completing this early is recommended.
First Year Scouts are DISCOURAGED from taking First Aid at camp first year. We feel this is better taken after their first year when they are better able to understand and learn the information presented.
The Trail Blazer Program is ideal for new scouts with six months (or less) of experience in scouting and working on their Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks. The Trailblazers Program at Grimes provides an opportunity for each Scout to learn and practice outdoor skills to assist them with rank advancement in your Troop. It is also designed to introduce Camp Grimes to new scouts and encourage them to return year after year.
