Obituary

David George Luther, 51, passed away early Monday morning, January 15, 2018 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital after a courageous battle with abdominal cancer.
Born in Dayton, Ohio on May 1, 1966, he was a son of Ann Elizabeth Wobus Luther of Mint Hill, NC and the late Thomas Andrew Luther.
David married the love of his life, Blair, and throughout their 20 year marriage became a proud father of his four children. He was a charter PSL holder and avid fan of the Carolina Panthers. David's generosity extended to his friends by establishing the annual Dad's Camping Trip in 2002, with attendees including up to 30 dads and 50 kids. He was a gifted handyman who learned the art of all things mechanical and construction from his father Tom. His friends will be forever grateful for his expertise as a seafood fry cook on their annual beach trips.
David, a member of The Well Christian Church, was a long-time member at University City United Methodist Church and a scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America Pack #65 in Mint Hill. He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1985. He attended Appalachian State University where he received a B.S. in Communications.
Survivors include his wife, Blair Hinesley Luther; his children, Glenn, Mattie, Virginia and McKay; his mother Ann, his siblings, Joe Luther and wife, Misty of Atlanta, GA, Greg Luther and wife, Leah of Mint Hill, NC and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Luther Cantrell of Monroe, NC; his father and mother-in-law, Leroy and Betty Hinesley of Denton, NC; his in-laws, Lisa Hinesley Merritt and husband, Chuck; Lee Hinesley and wife, Jennifer; Scott Hinesley and wife, Sharon; his nieces and nephews, Rachel Luther Cummins and husband, James; Emily Luther Hinton and husband, Phillip; Caroline, Emma, Boone, Will and Ben Hinesley.
David was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Steve Luther.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for 2:00 pm Friday, January 19, 2018 at University City United Methodist Church with Pastor Chad Cozad officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Love4Luther at https://whd554.wixsite.com/love4luther an established fund to support the family, or The Well Christian Church at www.thewellcc.net/give.
